Red Velvet

So this review is complicated to do. Let me begin by saying I love this scent. It is a creamy, sweet, hint of chocolate cake with subtle notes of vanilla and cream cheese frosting. I have heard that the throw is wonderful, but I got almost nothing from this votive.

That’s why it’s complicated! I will review the votive of Red Velvet as bad, but until I try a jar or tart of this, I will not give up!

A sales associate told me that Red Velvet isn’t just part of the Desserts collection…it should make it’s way to stores in a more traditional jar form…hopefully with tarts!

So A- for scent, D+ for VOTIVE throw, and a ? for the throw from a jar (which I keep hearing is excellent)!

  1. Hi Kari-Ann! You probably know this already but I just wanted to mention that the “Red Velvet” votive you’ve got there is one of the four fall scents in Europe. It seems that for fall 2012 there are totally different scents in the US and Europe.

    For example: http://www.yankee.co.uk/list/809/0/list.aspx

So this “Red Velvet” is different from the “Red Velvet Cake” which will be part of the Eat Dessert First limited edition.

I wonder though if they will smell differently or about the same?!? I’m really looking forward to this limited edition since I love all the baking scents. πŸ˜‰

As for the (“European”) Red Velvet: I had a tart (I’m German) and it was fabulous! Both scent and throw A+. I burned only half a tart and it filled my apartment really quick. So yesterday I ordered a medium tumbler. I’ll let you know how the throw is. πŸ™‚

PS: Luckily, I also got my hands on the US fall scents. Only as tarts and votives but still better than nothing. I ordered them as well. Now I’m sooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Martina,

Thank you so much for this information! I wonder if Red Velvet and Red Velvet Cake smell different! Please let me know about the throw on the jar…I love the scent, but want to make sure it’s not a dud!

Have you been able to smell Honey and Spice? That one is not in the US but sounds nice! I have a little bit of my Red Velvet votive, so i think I may smell it side by side with the Eat Desserts first version πŸ™‚

I’m excited you got the new fall scents…the ones i’ve tried have been amazing! I think Welcome Harvest is my favorite so far! πŸ™‚ Which ones are you most excited to try?

      • Honey & Spice is awesome! I’m not so good at describing scents but it smells warm and spicy without the cinnamon being overpowering (which I don’t like so much). I didn’t really smell any honey notes (the Camomile Tea smells more like honey to me) but I loved it. And ordered a small tumbler as well. πŸ˜‰

Of the US fall scents I’m most excited to try (of course!) Whoopie Pie and Caramel Pecan Pie. I should get them some time next week. I think I can only survive the weekend by browsing in the YC catalog on my bf’s iPad! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€

      • That’s so exciting! I can tell you’re like me: bakery scents all the way!!!! I’m deciding between Peppermint Bark and Carmel Pecan Pie for tonight!

Hope they get delivered soon..and Honey and Spice sounds awesome! Sometimes I get lucky at the YC Outlet! πŸ™‚

  2. I work for Yankee, yes they are the same scent. The eat dessert first reminds me of tacos for some reason. I think it is the plastic lid. Just an FYI Yankee has a wonderful return policy if you started to burn a jar and you don’t like it they will let you exchange for another jar f your choice. A lot of customers are unaware of this.

    • Vicki,

Thank you so much. I’ve been dying to know this! I like Red Velvet, so I’m glad it’s coming as a winter scent πŸ™‚

And thanks for the return tips…I usually try to stick it out with a jar, but it’s great to know I can return if I get one that misbehaves!

This is why I love Yankee Candle πŸ™‚

      • We have already started to recieve some new ones in the store, we have Sugared Apple (from the Spoonful of Sugar Line) Pinecone and Lime, I thought it would be stinky but is really good! And pine needle and apple, that one is o.k. And of course Red Velvet. πŸ™‚

      • Sugared Apple is my favorite of them all so far!!! I’m so happy it came back! I’m curious to try Pinecone and Lime…I think I’ll either love it or hate it (so worth a sniff).

Looks like I’ll have to pop in soon!!!

  3. Wow, I didn’t know about Pinecone & Lime! Sounds cool! πŸ™‚

Thanks Vicky for the info regarding Red Velvet and Red Velvet Cake. I thought they would smell the same because a couple of days I saw their descriptions are exactly the same.
