Sun-Drenched Apricot Rose is one of Yankee Candle’s new spring 2018 scents. I have to admit, I was underwhelmed again with this spring line-up. No scent really peaked my interest, especially the two floral scents. I know spring and floral go hand-and-hand, but I usually look for those spring scents that are getting us ready for the summer to come.
Anyway, Sun-Drenched Apricot Rose is the type of scent I go into already hating. But boy was I wrong. I actually really enjoyed this new scent!
The Scent: The unmistakable scent of rose mixed perfectly with sweet apricot. The rose is floral, aromatic, slightly powdery (in that rose-scented perfume kind of way) while the apricot was fruity, leathery, and slightly sweet. The two scents were perfectly balanced. The apricot prevented the rose from becoming over-bearing and added a spring-like freshness that I just loved. A-
The Throw: The throw was very good – I’d say a medium to a medium-strong… but it did have some ‘quirks’ to it. First, the powerful throw did start to fade into the back-ground after about 2-3 hours. It went from being that ‘pow – my whole room is filled’ type of throw to a nice background scent that was still detectable, but less strong. The other quirk – for the first 20 or so minutes it was melting, I could only smell rose. After that 20 minutes, the apricot came to balance out the scent. I definitely liked the throw – it was a good one! – but was a bit more complicated. A-
Overall, I cannot believe I am saying this, but I really liked Sun-Drenched Apricot Rose. This is not my type of scent at all, but it just worked. I guess it’s proof that you should try scents you think you’ll hate – you just never know!
