jenna-and-meWhy hello there! We are Kari and Jenna!

We’re sisters who love simply candles. Growing up, our mother always had a candle lit and now as adults, we continue that tradition in our own homes.

We grew up in the Boston area, but now live in different states. We started this blog back in 2011 toΒ  tell each other our hauls, finds, and deals,Β our opinions on new candles at Yankee Candle, Homegoods, Bath and Body Works, and any where else we can find candles!

PS: We are not affiliated with Yankee Candle or any other candle company. We love all candles!

  1. Can you tell me some of the history of Cinnamon Sugar, Pineapple Cilantro and Coconut Bay candles from Yankee Candle? Or is there a List for Retired/Discontinued scents? Maybe a Going to Retire List?
Also, is it okay for the candles to turn Dark? ive seen some at the store this way.
Im restarting my collection of Yankee Candle and havent bought a candles since early 2000. So, im all New to this again.
    Thanks in advance, J.Harris

    • Hi Juliet,
Unfortunately , YC does not have a list of retired/discontinued scents (which is too bad), but i can tell you about the three candles you asked about! Cinnamon Sugar was discontinued last winter. It was one of my favorites, very strong, but i have not seen it since last year. I was hoping it would become a rare treasure soon. Pineapple Cilantro is currently available on the YC website and I think in stores. this one is wonderful and still available ( i think its part of the regular summer line-up). Coconut Bay, according to what I have been told, was just recently retired. It might come back after the semi Annual sale, but right now it is unclear if it will be back or not!

It is okay for some candles to turn dark (especially the layer of melted wax after it cools). It seems to happen alot to light colored candles. Since each candle is poured by hand in multiple layers, each candle’s wax has slightly different reactions when heated. Sometimes the soot from the wick mixes in too, making it an ugly color. I have found that it doesn’t affect the scent at all! the newer wax (soy) seems to discolor more, which is normal for most soy-based waxes. Candle colors (of the same scent) can also vary. usually, the darker the color (of a specific scent), the more oils (which means stronger throw!). If it does turn dark, and it looks strange or stops giving scent, YC will take it back!

How exciting to be starting your collection again! It can be very addicting, especially at the SAS. Last year large jars (seasonal and the newly discontinued) were 2/$25, and you could use a $10 off $25 coupon! I always stock up at the sale!

I hope this helped, feel free to ask more questions or for a clarification!

  2. Hello YC sisters,

I am happy that I found your blog. Like very much how you describe each fragrance… I live in Belgium (here I do not have YC distributors), but since I discovered them in the UK few months ago I can’t avoid looking for them πŸ™‚
Anyway, I do my shopping online (based on reviews).. I discovered beautiful ones and I was lucky that I found many of the WJ collection.
Now, I found several on sale from the “my favorites things” and “wine” collection.. However no many reviews.. Could you help me a bit? Which ones would you recommend me?

    Thanks in advance,

    • Hi Veronica! I have a friend from Belgium; sounds like a beautiful place!

The My Favorite Things line was a limited release for the holidays. There were quite a few ones that I enjoyed from it: Blue Satin Sashes was probably my favorite. It was powdery and fresh, almost like clean laundry with a hint of cologne. I also loved Warm Apple Strudel; it is similar to Apple Pie (sugary, buttery, and soft apples). I’m not a big Rose fan, but the throw on Raindrops on Roses was very strong and the rose scent was very pleasant and floral. Warm Woolen Mitten (to me) had too light of a throw, so I avoided that one. there is also Moon on their Wings (I did not care for this scent so never tried it) and Bright Copper Kettles (this one has a nice spicy-cinnamon scent). Hope that helps!

As for the Wine collection: I personally loved Grapevine and Oak, Vineyard and Napa Valley Harvest. They all have a grape undertone (except Vineyard which is mostly a sweet grape scent. Napa Valley Harvest was my favorite (it is strong and smells the most like wine to me). I did not care for Napa Valley Sun (too musky for me). This collect is more spring/summery to me πŸ™‚

Hope that helps! Which WJ’s have you found? That line is probably my favorite!

  3. Hi Kari,

Thank you very much for the info, I will make a list and buy them soon…
Ohh.. I would love to have a belgian friend in USA too, bringing candles for me πŸ˜‰
Belgium is indeed a nice place… But I miss so much the warm weather and the beaches of the pacific!!! That is why the WJ collection was so appealing to me.

I wanted three: Canary Island Banana, Pacific Coconut and Tahitian Tiare Flower. Being the two first my favorite fruits, I had to get them.. But, I ended getting these:
Australian Oasis, Brazilian Passion Fruit, Canary Island Banana, Caribbean Trade Winds, Himalayan Air, Japanese Blossom, Madagascar Spice, Malaysian Palm, South African Vineyard, Danish Butter Cookie, Egyptian Cotton, Italian Christmas Biscotti, Pacific Coconut, Spice Island Holiday, Vera Cruz Vanilla, Tahitian Tiare Flower.
Sicilian Orange, Mediterranean Cypress, New Zealand Wild Berry, Rose of Morocco

I ignored French Lavender (found very bad reviews) and Christmas in Paris (no reviews). Later saw yours for the last but the prices went high again (~$33). Wish I could get the offers you get there.. In the UK offers are not really good (with discount the large tumblers cost me ~$20, but I think that was pretty cheap for that collection).

So far I have tried of course Canary Island Banana, Pacific Coconut and Tahitian Tiare Flower – love them, I just wish the banana was stronger… Also Japanese Blossom and Malaysian Palm (like this, but it is super strong).. The rest are all hidden, my partner does not understand my recent addiction to YC… hehe…

    • Veronica,

Your WJ collection is amazing! I have not lit Canary Island Banana yet, but thanks for your review, as I’ll keep it in a small room πŸ™‚ As far as quality and strength of smell goes, the WJ collection has been a personal favorite.

I have heard about the high prices that some of these candles sell for in Europe, so I’m glad that you can get a few sales!

I hope you can get some good ones πŸ™‚ Oh, and it took some time, but my fiance is just now finally accepting my candle addiction!

  4. Hi there ladies! I know the focus of your blog is clearly on Yankee Candles, but I was wondering if there would be any interest in reviewing some from a more, shall we say, independent company? My wife and I have a candle biz and would love for you to check out some of our stuff!

  8. Hi girls! I’m Lisa from Italy,i’ve just discover your blog and i’m so happy!! i need your opinions to make a yankee candle order. Do you have an email or a facebook page where i can message you?thank you very much!

  9. Hi there!!
I was wondering if you know much about Yankee pillar candles? They are 3″ x 9″ and they are not in a jar. I can’t seem to find any information on them at all. Thanks so much!

  10. Hi there, Yankee Candle Sisters!
I just opened up a small online (and tradeshow) candle business, called Candle Moments, and would love your input on some of our candles! Happy smelling!

  11. Hi , I wondered if you could help me with something … I stock Yankee Candles in The UK and love most of them …. From time to time I import a few USA exclusives , as us Brits go mad for them ! i recently purchased some Williamsburg Pineapple , but have noticed on the front label that the Williamsburg has been spelt ” Willamsburg” have you heard of a mistake happening ? was they recalled or sold cheaper ?
I would love to hear back from you , Kind Regards Sarah

    • Hi Sarah, I have not heard about this! (And I live fairly close to Williamsburg). In the US, most “mistakes” end up in the outlets (sold at half price), so I can investigate. But this mistake is new news to me (I hope they didn’t bait and switch a misprint!)

If I find out anything, I’ll let you know!

  12. Hi, I just found your blog. It’s awesome! I love Yankee Candles, but I also make my own. What do you do with the Jars after the candle is done?

    • Hi Joan! I used to keep my tarts in the old tumblers and jars! I’ve also seen people use them as vases for flowers! Because I move around a lot, I try to have little clutter, so I’ve been throwing my away (my area doesn’t recycle them 😦 )

  13. Hi, I bought 3 of the Pumpkin Spice candles with 3 wicks in at TJ MAxx and I am very disappointed. The flame is so little that it looks like its just go off every second and the wax only melts in the middle even though that that candle is already burning for 8 hours staright. but since the flame is so tiny it does not have enough power to melt the wax. I am very disappointed and would really like to get my money back ;-( ;-( ;-(

    • Hi Nadine, I am not sure of TJ MAxx’sreturn policy, but you should try to return the candles! (any unlit should be returnable…but I am not sure about any that were lit). Drowning wicks are a bummer….it either keeps extinguishing itself or you have to constantly monitor and scoop out melted wax (which is messy and dangerous!) 😦 I’ll know to avoid this one!

  14. thanks for getting back – I appreciate it. But I do make candles myself as well, but what you did is – you simply used the wrong wick – you did it right but putting 3 wicks in it but they were to small. where I order my supplies they have a wick guide where you type in the wax you are using and the size of container and it tells you all about the wicks. So if you had used a thicker wick then the flame had more power and would not drown and it would be a pretty candle. Trying to return them now. ;-(

    • Hi Nadine,

I recommend you try emailing Yankee Candle with this. (We are not affiliated with Yankee Candle or any other candle company). If they happened to use to the wrong wicks in one of their scents, it’d be great to bring it to their attention! Good luck with returning them!

  15. Hi ladies. I wasn’t sure how else to ask you a Yankee question- do either of you remember Sandalwood Vanilla being available in the regular, retail store line-up? I think it would have been around 2007-2009 or so. I know it was recently made available, and subsequently retired, in the UK/European market so the labels that are out there on Google, etc. are both US and European. It was also available in Outlets this past year (at least the 3 that i frequent always had it in stock). Google image searches are of little help unless they lead me to a post that includes the bottom label (for stock item # and pour code). Thanks for any help! πŸ™‚

    • Hi Shenkjr, I unfortunately only remember seeing Sandalwood Vanilla at the outlet (probably in the last two years). My candle obsession (on my own) began around late 2009, so it could have been in the regular line up prior…(sorry)

It screams fall scent that was retired within a year to me (knowing YC’s patterns). But I can ask around! It was a popular scent at one of the outlets I used to frequent!

  16. Hello…I came across your website in searching for a discontinued Yankee Candle product: Carribean Tradewind. Would you guys happen to know where to find a discontinued candle product? Any help would be great…thanks!

    • Hi Amber…Yankee Candle outlets are my go to…but it’s so hit or miss, especially if you are looking for something specific. Other than that..ebay..but I hear that can get pricey! Hope that helps! Goodluck!

  17. Hi, my name is Richele, I am in love❀ with the yankee candle: Italian Christmas biscotti πŸ‹…. amazing creamy warm smell. Did yankee stop making that candle? I also want to try the German apple🍎struddle…. I have been told it smells amazing. Do you have any feedback on these 2 candles. Thank you

    • Hi Richele – Agreed, Italian Christmas Biscotti is awesome. It still can be found in Marshalls/TJMaxx/Homegoods near the holidays, or in a Yankee Candle outlet. Not sure if it will be available in 2017, but I saw some last year! Unfortunately, I have not seen German Apple Strudel in a few years…that one may be harder to find. These candles are like treasure hunts, you never know when or if they will be available.
